  • A LITTLE EXPLORING

If you haven't already done this, take some time to check out the Bible website YouVersion (links below).

    Exploration 1 - First Steps

Click the button below to go to the You Version main page. See how it opens to Genesis 1, in the ESV (English Standard Version)?

You can click on the words "Genesis 1" just below the top of the page and a list of all the books of the Bible will open up. Click on "Matthew". A table will open with chapter numbers. Click on box 14. Matthew 14 will open up, beginning at verse 1. Start reading!

Repeat the process to find other books and chapters to read.

See Note 1 in the NOTES box below

    Exploration 2 - Next Steps

Click the button below to go to the You Version page. See how it opens to Matthew 14, in the KJV (King James Version)?

You can change the English translation by clicking on the letters "KJV" just to the right of the "Matthew 14" button. This time, a list of all the English translations available will drop down. Scroll down until you find "New International Version" - this is the one we use in worship at Christ the King. Click on that one, and start reading!

Repeat the process to choose other English translations to read (try GOD'S WORD, The Message, and others)

See Note 2 in the NOTES box below

    Exploration 3 - More Fun

Click the button below once more to go to the You Version main page. See how it opens to John 3, in the KJV (King James Version)?

In the previous step you changed the English translation by clicking on the letters "KJV" just to the right of the "John 3" button. This time, when the list of all the English translations drops down, look for the blue words that say "Change language" and click on those. A new list will drop down, that shows all the various languages in which some or all of the Bible is available. Scroll down until you find one or more that interest you, and start reading!

See Note 3 in the NOTES box below

    NOTES

Note 1:  You may be able to find a particular verse by typing it into the search box (try John 3:16), but YouVersion seems to be set to open either one verse or one whole chapter, not part of a chapter.

Note 2:  Near the top of the YouVersion screen, to the right of the buttons with the Bible books and translation selectors, there are three smaller buttons. If you click the one that says "Parallel" you can open another translation right next to the one you already have open, and compare the two. If you click the one that looks like a little loudspeaker, you may be able to listen to a recording of the translation you have on screen (not all translations have this). If you click the one that looks like two different-sized letter A's you can change the size and type of the words on the screen.

Note 3: Some of the languages listed have partial translations (just the Gospels, or just the New Testament, for instance). Much translation work is still required to make the entire word of God available in all these languages.
